Slightly before my time too. My Dad also grew up in the Bronx. As I was a huge fan of Mickey Mantle et al, he was a huge fan of Babe Ruth et al. I wuz schooled. Dad hated that Roger Maris got 61 HRs in 1961. He was a big proponent of the asterisk *. Me and my uncle, his younger brother, would argue with him for hours. He wouldn't give in. Being a WW2 marine and NYPD cop.....he didn't know, ‘giving in’.
