Wish I had a copy of Joan Didion’s “The White Album” to quote from — but I don’t. But in it Didion says something to the effect of — The 60’s ended August 8, 1969. We awoke the morning after Tate-La Bianca murders in shock and disgust at what the sex and drugs, free love, peace movement of the 60’s had brought us to.
Then we lived in terror for 4 or 5 days until the butcherers were found. It was scary — everyone in L.A was on edge.
4 or 5 days??.....the LAPD blew this case so bad...it was 4 months later..only after Susan Adkins ran her mouth in jail, that they were finally arrested and charged...until then, no one had a clue.
I lived in LA at the time, was invited to the party at Sharon Tate’s house that night. My bf was a client of celebrity hair stylist/barber Jay Sebring and Jay invited us. When bf told me we’d been invited to a Hollywood party with real STARS, all the air left my body, as if I’d been kicked in the stomach. NO, I shouted. Purely instinctive, or maybe grace.
Jay was among the dead.
Monsters come in all colors, sizes, shapes and sexes. This monstrous murderer should NEVER leave prison.
