In the Northeast they can tell you’re not from the area if you ask for a slice of ‘cheese pizza’. It’s just a slice of ‘pizza’, or ‘plain pizza’ at most. To them, it’s asking for ‘cheese pizza’ is no different than asking for ‘bread pizza’ or ‘tomato-sauce pizza’.

In the Northeast they can tell youre not from the area if you ask for a slice of cheese pizza. Its just a slice of pizza, or plain pizza at most. To them, its asking for cheese pizza is no different than asking for bread pizza or tomato-sauce pizza.
I'm from the northeast (New Haven Coutny, Connecticut), and a plain apizza in New Haven can mean crust, sauce, and a sprinkling of parmesan (no mozzerella). So yes, if you are going to the top parlours, asking for a cheese (a)pizza is not redundant.
