Yellowstone earthquake swarm becomes one of the biggest on record with 2,300 quakes since June 2017

The ongoing swarm at Yellowstone National Park is now one of the longest and largest on record.

The largest swarm ever recorded was in October 1985; it lasted for three months and included more than 3,000 earthquakes. There was another large swarm in 2010, when more than 2,000 events were recorded over a month.

...

As of August 30, 2,357 earthquakes had been recorded. The most powerful in recent weeks was magnitude 3.3; it took place on August 21. The most powerful in the current swarm was a magnitude 4.4, which was recorded on June 15.

Yellowstone has had dozens of these sorts of earthquake swarms in the last 150 years it’s been visited. The last volcanic eruption within the caldera was 70,000 years ago. For magma to reach the surface, a new vent needs to be created, which requires a lot of intense geological activity.

USGS would need to see considerably more and larger earthquakes, combined with contemporaneous ground deformation, steam explosions and changes in gas and heat discharge, prior to moving the alert level.

I see the oh so great Greely has jumped on the band wagon on that one. She is the one who would like to panic the whole GD country to get her attention.

These freaks should be taken off youtube and only the ones who care to discuss it honestly let on to report. I can tell you this, people in the USGS are sick and tired of her and her ilk. The guy I linked you to? They sort of appreciate this type reporting since they dont try to panic the public.

but still not very likely in our lifetimes.

I hope you're right...and you likely are.

I pray for my children and my new grandchildren that they should live out their lives without seeing the wrath of G-d. But as for myself, I simply don't have the preps to deal with Yellowstone wiping out 2/3 of the people of the world.

It's funny. My family and I were just discussing Noah and the events that led up to him being so famous.
G-d made a covenant with Noah that he would not flood the world again. There was no mention of extinction level geologic events.

I would like to give them some ideas. They are already porting volcano’s in California for geo thermal energy operations. If they want to try and stop Yellowstone, just trying to line up the volunteers for the first cool down. God forgive that water would hit lava and melt some of them. It is NASA we are dealing with, former job was to make islum look good, guess that didn’t go so well. islum never looks or is good. Should be banned!

Some threats are so big all you can do is shrug and say “Welp, what can you do?”

Yeah, I’m just 30 south of there. I’m doomed!

I would think that there may be a way to do it intelligently, possibly using it to fuel a large part of the country. They should start out slowly and see how it goes. The alternate strong possibility of a super volcano erupting may make it worth looking into.
