In Retaliation, U.S. Orders Russia to Close Consulate in San Francisco
The New York Times ^ | AUG. 31, 2017 | Mark Landler

The Trump administration on Thursday ordered Russia to close its consulate in San Francisco and two diplomatic annexes, in New York and Washington, retaliating against Russia’s order for the United States to reduce its embassy staff in Moscow by 755 people.

Secretary of State Rex W. Tillerson informed Russia’s foreign minister, Sergey V. Lavrov, of the tit-for-tat move in a phone call on Thursday morning. The administration took pains to say the move was purely reciprocal, and was not designed to further escalate tensions between the United States and Russia.

"In retaliation". Okaaayyy... So, simply to clarify - this fuss with Russian diplomats and diplomatic compounds that took place in 2016 does not count?

I don’t wish to sound like an apologist for Russia but on the other hand, I believe that zero is being achieved by this obvious tit for tat idiocy, and a lot of it is being fueled by the completely fake Mueller investigation into so-called Russian collusion. This well is being slowly but surely poisoned and neither side benefiting from it.

One of the reason this consulate was in San Francisco is, they have so much support from Democrats, who embrace communism. this is going to piss off a lot of Democrats seeing their best friends leave the United States

Anyone remember the construction they did on the roof of their embassy? Pacific Heights. High on the hill. The construction was covered with plywood. SF would have let them get away with it if it wasn’t obstructing their million dollar views. No one knows what was going on. Musta had something to do with communications.

Terrible terrible stupid action
Sorry
This isnt 4 d chess. It’s checkers and now Putin makes another move and so on
No winner here
I hoped for so much more from Trump
Now of all times we could use some cooperation with Russia vs North Korea!
And obama started it by punishing Russia for what NO ONE can prove ( or even believes) it did -” hacking our election”
Just shows the same-o special, interests are still running our foreign policy vs Russia

Nothing really
Thats why up to now Russia and the US were even
Now its back to Russia to react again
As they should. Frankly
The US closed our consulate in Vladivostok,so Russians have to go 8 time zones to Moscow or use facilitators to get visas
Now US ctitzens in the western US that need Russian visas get to come to DC to do the same

The New York Slimes is now owned (Most shares) by a man named Carlos Slim who lost billions when Trump was elected. A Mexican billionaire who is still considered to be possibly the most wealthy man in the world.....

He is very corrupt and owns much of Mexican anything. He also loved the Clinton Foundation.

He despises Trump and his media slimes show it in their writing.

Why are we posting it here?

I am waiting for my Russian visa to process and it is currently at the San Francisco consulate which is being closed in one day. If it’s not processed by next week as expected (and paid $400 for) I will be unable to go to Moscow for my fiance’s k1 visa interview which could cause all kinds of problems.. So yeah this completely sucks for me.

Too bad our US State Department is sticking it to ordinary people both here and in Russia
THEY decided to close the Vladivostok consulate in a petty act to stick it to Putin ( actually hurting Russians citizens in the Far East) for ordering us to cut our US staff in Russia to equal Russian staff in the US
Now THEY decided to close the Russian consulate in San Fran as if this hurts Putin - when the major effect is on our own citizens
It has got to be obamites running the State Department policy toward Russia because this game is being played by brain - dead bureaucrats

Oh but btw, President Putin can you please exercise your considerable influence over North Korea to help us out despite our petty games and insults?
