This is a stupid article. They didn’t even bother doing research to find out if the sun somehow becomes more capable of blinding a person during an eclipse compared to staring at the sun any odd afternoon. Then they didn’t even bother to contact the dude to see if it was related. How can this trash make it to print?

I think the problem is that the sun is ordinarily very difficult to stare at for any length of time so the possibility of damage is limited, whereas the sun in not quite total eclipse is not so difficult to stare at which greatly increases the possibility of damage.
