Noooooooooooo! Leave God’s amazing creation alone! They’re going to destroy a wonder of the world! Who cares if it blows up? Seriously. Take care of human threats and leave the volcano alone!
“NASA’s plan is to drill a hole into the side of the volcano and pump water through it. When the water comes back out, it’ll be heated to over 600 degrees, slowly cooling the volcano. ‘
This should have the same level of effect as pissing in the ocean.
I read they recently discovered a humongous new magma chamber under the old one at Yellowstone and that there is enough magma down there to fill up the Grand Canyon 15 times over. And it’s about 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit or so.
Now, I don’t know how much of that heat they are planning to release into the earth’s atmosphere (let’s just assume about a third, five Grand Canyons of it), but you’re not going to prevent a massive volcanic eruption by draining out a little of it. You’re going to have to drain out a huge amount of it. And to think they don’t want me to mow my lawn every Saturday because of global warming. Me and my little one gallon lawn mower gas tank is the big villain here, not the heat from five Grand Canyon’s full of 1800 degree magma.
Do you think NASA is in cahoots with the global warming nut jobs?
I got (clang) (clang) s-s-s-steam heat,
I got (clang) (clang) s-s-s-steam heat,
I got (clang) (clang) s-s-s-steam heat,
But I need your love to keep away the cold
I got (clang) (clang) s-s-s-steam heat,
I got (clang) (clang) s-s-s-steam heat,
I got (clang) (clang) s-s-s-steam heat,
But I can’t get warm without your hand to hold
Anyone want to do the calculations? Unless this generation facility is big enough to replace the western grid, I'd bet the magma temperature decline wouldn't even show up as a rounding error.
Why is NASA wasting time on this when there are confederate statues that could be vaporized from space, if only NASA had enough money.
NASA JPL. More to the story here:

In that case, De Blasio better be gathering more money to build a volcano-proof dome atop of his giant seawall he wants to build around NYC to keep out the rising ocean.
It appears that NASA doesn’t know about undersea volcanoes. All that cold seawater does not hold them back.
And the super hot steam powers what?
5.56mm
“NASA’s plan is to drill a hole into the side of the volcano and pump water through it. When the water comes back out, it’ll be heated to over 600 degrees, slowly cooling the volcano. The team hopes that given enough time, this process will take enough heat from the volcano to prevent it from ever erupting.”
there must be only about a gazillion bazillion trillion BTUs in that lava dome. And they’re gonna cool it with ONE frickin hole “given enough time”? What, like a million years? And where the hell are they gonna get that much water in Wyoming? Not to mention, talk about actually creating global warming by releasing that much heat into the atmosphere ...
what a bunch of nimrods.
What could possibly go wrong?
What prevents a gigantic “blow out” when the drill bit hits the magma? Sounds to me like they better talk to some oil drillers about drilling and pressure before they even begin to talk about this possibility
It’s a new scam to get more taxpayer money.
.
>> “The supervolcano erupts about every 600,000 years...” <<
This is an astoundingly foolish and ignorant statement!
There haven’t even been 600,000 years elapse since time itself was created.
.
Maybe that $100 billion Obama spent looking for global warming could’ve been spent on this project.
Mother erf has a boil.
Ooh, icky.
