Geez, I’d imagine they’re lucky to have survived that.

Notice how every orifice in the metal structure of the car is blown out - even the door release handles and the fuel filler door. If they're not both stone deaf, it's a miracle.

Luckly for them the car's gas tank didn't go.

I agree. Not just their hearing, but the entire structure of their inner ear. They might be able to consume food, breathe, and excrete, but I still find it amazing that they would ever be able to walk or stand upright. And maybe if they are still in hospital beds that part is unresolved.
