I often make a substitute for mashed potatoes with cauliflower. Hard to tell the difference. Only if you have absolutely no taste buds left.

Mashed turnips can be very nice, despite not sounding so nice. Mash with a little sour cream, a little horseradish and a little sea salt. Serve with dairy butter melted over them.
