I assumed The Munsters was a low grade rip-off of The Addams Family, but imdb.com says they started in the same year -- in fact in the same month.

They also say the two shows went head to head against each other and Bewitched, but they were on at different times and not all on the same day, either.

Bewitched did start in the same year as the other two. It makes you kind of wonder what Hollywood was drinking or smoking or ingesting back in 1964.

The monster craze got going in the ‘50s when studios, especially Universal, released their back catalog of horror movies to television. That’s when hosted Friday and Saturday night horror movies got started, and it all mushroomed from there, both in the movies and on TV.
