Why would the Spanish embassy hire a US citizen? Doesn't make sense at all. I think all embassies hire locals. I was at the US Embassy in Manila. The ONLY American I saw, was the consular officer. ALL the rest were Filipinos, and I never saw one Marine guard, not one.
