It’s the whole glitzy Potemkin Village mirage populated with creepy-crawlie scammers, from prostitutes to drug dealers, that I don’t care for. Strikes me as corrupted Disney-fake. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve lived a life and delved into the seedier side so I’m no prude but I don’g go looking for it, at least not anymore. Heck, even Myrtle Beach bugs me for the same reason, it’s all the above, Vegas plopped down on the Atlantic starting to sprawl back into the swamps, sans casinos, legal ones at least.

I like to joke that my Las Vegas vacations are less expensive than the Disney vacations I took my kids on when they were little. True! I spent a small fortune taking my kids to the obligatory theme parks, only to stand in lines in the hot sun for hours and be surrounded by thousands of whiny brats nearly 24/7. But I did it for the kids!

Now that the kids are grown, my wife and I focus on cruises, Vegas trips and even Hawaii vacations that are actually all less money and more fun than when we used to take the kids to Orlando theme parks.

The seediness is everywhere I'm afraid. We were on the Outer Banks a few weeks ago and took a side trip to Virginia Beach. That place has really gone downhill and was quite skanky in areas. Unless you got the cash to stay at a nice gated resort, you have that environment to contend with in just about every tourist area.

Either these places are getting seedier or I'm just getting older and crankier about such things than I used to be!
