No, I am not ignorant of history. No income tax in the early years of our country. And being a resident of PA I am keenly aware of the Whiskey tax, NOT a tariff, and how it was enforced. Now skip to today where we have income and business taxes and you are happy to add Tariffs to that. Talk about taxation without representation!
I won’t “skip” to today. Tariffs are a consumption based tax that also promotes domestic industry. The founders knew that, I know that but some how you don’t get it. Yo progressive love your income tax don’t you?
Tariffs end up promoting crony capitalism. It enables unions, price gouging and political paybacks. And no, I would prefer a flat tax. You just love your big government and political paybacks don’t you?
Tariffs are optional, don't buy then don't pay.
That’s funny. Want those manufacturing unions to blossom? Feed ‘em with some good old fashioned crony capitalism and protectionism. Hey, it worked great in other Marxist countries.
Harsh fact for you buddy: now that we’ve had the income tax since the early 1900’s it’s not going anywhere soon. The tariffs you want would just be an additional and politically applied additional tax. And it ignores the reality of a global marketplace.
Good luck with that.
You are globalist traitor so you are happy with the income tax. I guess you missed the whole Trump election thing.
Nope. you just have it wrong.
Tell you what; give Trump a year and we’ll see who gets what they want. I want a lower income tax rate, less regulation, a more free market and tariffs used only as punishment for bad behavior (that includes Mexican immigration). You want across the board protectionism like Smoot Hawley.
Let’s see who gets what they want.
You called me a globalist traitor. I’ll return the insult and call you a traitor to conservatism and the free market and a crony capitalist. You have more in common with Obama than Trump.
We reaffirm our belief in the protective tariff to extend needed protection to our productive industries. We believe in protection as a national policy, with due and equal regard to all sections and to all classes. It is only by adherence to such a policy that the well being of the consumers can be safeguarded that there can be assured to American agriculture, to American labor and to American manufacturers a return to perpetrate American standards of life. A protective tariff is designed to support the high American economic level of life for the average family and to prevent a lowering to the levels of economic life prevailing in other lands.
In the history of the nation the protective tariff system has ever justified itself by restoring confidence, promoting industrial activity and employment, enormously increasing our purchasing power and bringing increased prosperity to all our people.
So you really don't know anything about conservatism now do you? Try to educate yourself because you have been brain washed by globalists.
I’ve seen you post and repost the platform statement from 1924 repeatedly as if it means something. It doesn’t.
Quoting any party platform is dicey business, but one from almost a hundred years ago, to borrow a phrase about the vice presidency, isn’t worth a warm bucket of spit.
Here’s a quote from Trump’s official website:
“President Trump is working hard to implement his America First platform, continuing his promise to the American people to lower taxes, repeal and replace Obamacare, end stifling regulations, protect our borders, keep jobs in our country, take care of our veterans, strengthen our military and law enforcement, and renegotiate bad trade deals, creating a government of, by and for the people.”
