Apparently before he died, he was planning on collaborating with Miles Davis.
I would have loved to have heard how that would have turned out.
His rhythm playing in this performance is pretty amazing. Lots of little R&B approved embellishments going on. People think of Hendrix as this over the top rocker but he was thoroughly grounded in roots music.
In the nam we named the purple smoke after him, purple haze.
He was, and had plans to collaborate with other musicians outside his genre. His death came right at a time of great personal evolution. He was just bursting with ideas, and moving into the next phase of his career.
Jimi started his career working in R&B bands, and became a consummate backup guitarist for the likes of Wilson Ptckett, Little Richard, and the Isley Brothers.
He worked (what was then called) the Chitlin' Circuit, hon7ng the skills that made him great. If you ever hear any of his session work for others in those early days, you can hear the beginnings of his unique style coming through.
