Victor Fleming? He’s not really held up as any sort of all time great. He took over GWTW after another director was fired. And that director’s work was the better part of the film (the first hour or so).

He took over for George Cukor because Clark Gable felt he was more of a woman’s director. So Victor Flemming comes in, then he has a nervous breakdown and finally we have Sam Wood who finished the picture. Complicated.
