I’ve been loading my own music into my I devices since the iphone3GS. I imported my CD rips into iTunes on my desktop and it synced to the I devices.

You’re operating under misinformation.

I'm sure that you are correct in that you need iTunes to load music onto the iPad2. But I'm not interested in iTunes and registering and all that. But a lot of folks swear by iTunes so clearly many folks find it useful.

Myself, I have a cheap phone (not a smart phone) that I put music on. It is really simple. Plug in a USB cable and copy the songs over from whatever. The cheap phone just looks like a generic external drive to other devices. That is about a complex as I care to deal with, LOL.

Right. But! You have to put all your music in one library. You can’t synch music from two different computers. It’s a pain.
