Drug addicts hate this 'world' so much, they are willing to risk killing themselves to put themselves into a mental state that allows them to 'shut off' the world. It is the whole point of taking drugs. Altering personal experience of reality because you don't like reality. Unfortunately, ignoring reality often kills you.

Nothing forces anyone to ingest or inject any substance. Nothing. Bottles, bongs, and needles don’t have brains or muscles. They can’t force anyone to do anything.
Addicts are not “victims”. A victim is someone who is forced beyond their control.
