The Oliver North hearings were the start of my political awakening. I watched him in one of them and thought he came across as sincere and honest...a Boy Scout. But I watched the news later that night and their description of him and his testimony was vile and vicious. That was when I realized that the “news” is no such thing...it’s propaganda.

I got involved in high school. The whole school was for Kennedy (Catholic girls) and I was for Nixon. Had to work for 3 locals, not Nixon, and went to their luncheon. Dirty jokes! That year I had grandmother vote all Republican and 3 Democrats. The trick, I decided, was never to meet a politician. I watched Oliver North avidly but was driven crazy by the nasty commentary of senators as well as news people. Thus, the editing. One can find the whole thing elsewhere, but these are much more watchable - to me, at least.

Same here. I watched the hearings all day and turned on the news at night and how they reported what went on I was wondering if we had watched the same thing. That was my awakening to “fake news” and saw how the news media edited and slanted things to make their own narrative.
