A set of videos from the 1989 San Francisco earthquake. After Part 1, I edited the tapes VERY heavily, so I'd suggest starting with something after the first confusions, like Parts 2 or 3 or 4.
LOL, one good thing about the earthquake, is that it finally got Tim McCarver to shut up.
Along the coast and north of Eureka, if you feel a quake, it’s a good idea to head for the hills. If memory serves me, the last big one was some 400 years ago. There is no grounds for panic and it’s such a beautiful coast. Quite a while ago, my folks retired toBandon, OR. My Dad joked about the potential.
What do you mean shut up? His lead-in will be seen forever now and he is part of history. He’ll never be shut up now.
Yeah. Scary.
indeed - the really really great big one that’s supposed to happen every 70 years in SF hasn’t happened since 1906.
every year that passes only increase the odds and magnitude
Makes sense, one always knows who the mother is.
The father, not so much...
Not so much fear as necessity.
I lived thru it too.
Only time I ever thought...”Perhaps I will know what it is like to die today”
I was in Santa Clara at the time.
I was just south-west of you in Santa Clara.
Saw the 200kv power towers over our building swaying for 20 min after the quake.
My two year old was sitting in my lap when I heard The Train rumbling through. We stood in a doorway waiting for a chance to get outside
Didn’t think I was gonna die. Did think all the book cases would crash. They tottered but stood
I lived in Foster City at the time and the entire town jiggled like a bowl of Jell-O.
It was scary.
I vividly remember on TV a lady they pulled out of the rubble of the collapsed highway in Oakland, where the only thing holding her foot to her leg was her pantyhose.
