The thing with cooper was he was an innovator- performing rap before rap was cool- shock rock like noone’s business- theatrical rock- big hair- makeup etc-
A lot of rock stars give him props for paving the way for various genre style rock and roll from which their styles evolved
He hit the scene at just the right time- when kids began rebelling more against authorities- school- govenrment etc- 20 years earlier and he might not have succeeded- likely wouldn’t have-
His rock wasn’t for everyone- some of his stuff was really sick- for which he later apologized and vowed to to delve into anymore-
He even did a show with the muppets characters- If anyone could make the muppets appear creepy- it was him lol-
I’ve seen the classic Muppet Show with Alice Cooper and believe it or not that’s what finally made me see him as something other than a makeup-wearing 70’s shock rock artifact, finally gained some appreciation for his music above and beyond what had gotten airplay on the radio. There were a number of musicians and bands who had very memorable appearances on that show. It’s an underappreciated venue for musical performances, much much more than just a children’s show.
This just came out today...
