Then these places substituted local moonshine to save $$ from real Everclear. Bad move. They got caught and several thrown in the slammer because of the bad PR.
If these guys were spiking w local moonshine I bets this is a methanol poisoning.
I was visiting a factory in Chihuahua once and the plant manager complained that the reason why quality suffered was because the locals (businesses, people, etc.) would swap out a more expensive piece for a cheaper piece to save a few pennies.
Basically ripping off their customers.
He used the example of the stick of butter on our table. He said that the butter looks and might even taste like butter but it isn't butter — it might be salted lard with a yellow die.
Interesting that many US appliance manufacturers are moving to ol’ Mexico. I'd be very wary of anything Hecho en Mexico.
Never drink anything in Mexico(or most other countries) that does not come from a bottle that you open or witness opening.
However, I was at the Marriot in Boston once. I took a bottle of Heineken out of the mini fridge in the room(I was traveling on business/expense account). I took a drink and did not taste beer. I went to the bathroom sink and spit it out. Some prior occupant had twisted off the cap drank the beer, refilled it with tap water and put it back so they would not get charged. That is why now many of the mini fridges in hotels state you will be charged IF you remove anything from the fridge. Apparently, this was happening all the time.
Ouch.
Thanks.
