Excellent. Played by the composer himself. Always been frustrated at some of the dirge-like renditions of RIB; Gershwin's playful uptempo styling is the only standard.

The original manuscript score is in the Library of Congress. The entire Gershwin collection is there. Anyone can see it. LOC also has Gershwin’s piano.

Phenomenal! Gershwin may have looked like a wimp -- but to play with that vigor, he must have had some serious forearms...

After hearing that tour de force, I won't be able to stomach all those latter-day "draggy, plodding" renditions!

I thought it was played at the faster tempo because he needed to fit the piece on both sides of a 78 (which I’m happy to say I own, by the way).

Many years ago I went to see the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra perform. One of the performances was RIB played by Gershwin himself....on a player piano and he recorded the music onto the piano roll.
