"Anyone who sees clinical signs of the disease on a snake - swelling, crusty scabs or open wounds on the skin - is asked to contact the division."

The DNR has lost their minds! Like am going out in the forest and check Milksnakes for fungus. Opps it was a Copperhead, my bad!

Thought it was fungus on a milkshake at first read.

Sorry, can’t get too upset over the demise of poisonous snakes.

When I first saw the headline I thought that it said that fungus was found on a milkshake in West Virginia! I thought, and this makes the news?

No problem if it only affected the poisonous snakes .....but the non-poisonous snakes are very important to maintain rodent control in the forest.....

[Snake fungal disease isn’t the only worry for snake populations. A 2010 study in Biology Letters found some worrying evidence of a global decline in snakes, possible related to habitat deterioration, lack of prey and, maybe, climate change. But the status of the world’s snakes right now isn’t really clear. There’s so little known about so many snake species that scientists can’t say how bad the situation might be.]

Sounds like they need to drop a few of those infected snakes in Florida to remedy the Python problem there.
