He obviously screwed up and knows it. He’s looking at manslaughter at the least. He knows his job is gone.
Nobody can force you to speak to criminal investigators.

IA can demand a statement under Garrity as a condition of employment, and if he refuses, he is terminated. However, the compelled statement can only be used internally and may not be part of any prosecution.

Basically at this point, I doubt he will ever give an interview to the police. Unless his attorney finds some impossible mitigating circumstance which ain’t going to happen. He’s toast and can only play defense legally and in the PR world.

You'll never find me disagreeing with the need for officers to be held personally accountable for their actions, just as EVERY OTHER citizen is. I fully support officers being treated equally with all as to the investigation of a shooting, and I believe they must be held to the same standards a private citizen would be held to in using deadly force.

But they aren't. Officer involved shooting investigations move at a glacial pace and nearly universally find that the officer used acceptable force for the situation, no matter if it is an officer of Somali heritage shooting a woman or a rookie sheriff deputy who blasted a kid for carrying an airsoft rifle along a rural road.
