In my younger years, I had a few jobs where I never came back from lunch on the first day. Over the decades, I never had a job that took me a year to decide if it was right for me.
A "year" was an arbitrary amount of time. The more menial the job, the less time it probably takes to decide.
I chose a year for a more substantial position. It might take a year to become familiar with the full range of work, to determine whether or not your responsibilities align with the job for which you interviewed, to understand the organizational hierarchy, to see how your management treats you, how the company treats its people, etc.
My point was that if you're trying to determine whether or not a $14/hour job is right for you--it's probably not a big deal if you decided to leave it quickly and look somewhere else.
