Ok. Who kills the Mountain? The showrunners may be witless enough to stage a Cleganebowl, but that would be a wasted opportunity. Sandor is accumulating disappointments on his way to becoming a good man. He should be fully primed to do the job when Gregor is cut down by Beric Dondarrion or Arya. Or even Yara Greyjoy, just for fun, leaving Sandor to once again sputter in futility.
I think it sucked, has become predictable, a soap opera, and with little dialog, because they don’t have dialog from books any longer. Just my sad reaction after tonight’s episode.
What a way to start off the season!
(SPOILERS!)
Arya wearing the face of Walder Frey and murdering his sons.
Clever, I thought they were going to simply destroy themselves.
Jamie needs to be FURIOUS with Cersei after what she did. Causing the death of Tommen and blowing up King's Landing with Wild Fire, which is what Jamie threw everything away to prevent.
For being dead, they sure do mention Stannis a lot. Almost like he was important to the plot or something. Stephen Dillane must have cost too much, it's how they paid for the Dragon Effects I guess.
Tormund with Brianne is always cute.
Sadly he is going to East-Watch-By-The-Sea. :(
Some great characterization of The Hound :'(
He is feeling remorseful of what he has done.
Compared to Arya, who I predict will commit the same sins against Ed Sheeran and the Lannister Soldiers that Walder Frey committed against her.
She is becoming even more heartless.
Still a good kick off to the season.
Also, Gendry must still be rowing.
Yes, the show has declined since they outran GRRM’s dialogue and have had to depend on screenwriters. As to predictability, the show has been strung out too long, mainly because it’s a cash cow for HBO. The plotlines have necessarily simplified as the death toll mounts and the survivors drive towards an endgame. In real history, there is no endgame and new characters can always arise. In show terms, however, it is far too late to be introducing major new characters. (Howland Reed doesn’t count; he’s been present, through off-stage, all along.) There are a handful of major plot twists that have to be resolved, but the various permutations have all been explored at length by the fans. We’re at the stage where GRRM and the showrunners have to choose A, B, or C, and none of them will be a real surprise.
OK well I just watched this show (I think) and it seemed pretty good.
Will watch for this, in the future.
LOL!
Wife and I are huge GOT fans but that episode was a real letdown.
The thing we like most about GOT is it’s always high quality - well written, acted and directed. But tonight? The acting was way off (Ironborne King - can’t remember his name - talking to Cersi as she sat on the Iron Throne..he seemed way too modern..not believable AT ALL..and the clothes? He looked like he was an aging rocker, not the new king of the Iron Islands).
The VERY worst part was the whole Sam-in-the-Citadel emptying bedpans and serving gruel. That was just SO NON-GOT like. It went on..and on..and while they were trying to make the point about how much his new life at the Citadel was awful, it was directed SO POORLY I thought I was watching something some first year college student directed, not the legendary GOT directors.
Dragonstone at the end was fairly well done, and every second Daenerys is on the screen is always fabulous. But even she felt a little ‘off’.
Oh, and don’t get me started on Ed Sheeran having a cameo. Way to ruin the magic, guys. Big Ed Sheeran fan - but immediately recognizable modern stars don’t belong in an epic fantasy or you RUIN THE FANTASY PART.
I hope S7 Ep 2 is better because this was not up to the typical GOT excellence we’ve come to expect..
I felt the first epidose was trying to help the audience coordinate everything after the long wait from last season. I liked it. I expect an amazing next 6 episodes.
The Arya-Frey scene was good. The Mountain’s scenes at the home were fantastic.
But most of the episode was just boring. Sansa is completely worthless and only good for “drama” with Jon. Little Finger has been reduced to the man twirling his mustache in the corners. Lady Mormont is the only interesting character left in Winterfell.
Dani’s great entrance was too long and wasn’t very impressive. The CGI just looked off. Dragonstone was a lot more interesting when Stannis was around. There should have been some squatters in the place at least.
And Jaime was right, the Ironborn are good at nothing. What are they going to do against professional soldiers and warships armed with catapults? The Ironborn are hit and run pirates.
Or as "South Park" stated it:
WIEner wiener WIEner wiener WIEner...
Hang on. Gotta go see if it’ll come up on my Apple TV.
Yep. There it is. I’ll tell ya how it turns out later.
I thought it was just great! You can spend hours after hours watching a ton of youtube speculation theory videos, or you can just turn it on and just warch it.
Best part is no anti Trumping in it.
My wife has the best explanation, we’re now watching the result of conversations between GRRM and the HBO staff so there’s no literary content to fill out the dialogue. Half the scenes depict events with little or no dialogue.
Wife also points out that Tyrion who always had the greatest dialogue has been reduced to saying nothing too interesting.
