Yeah, they say it like it's a bad thing. The Birchers were one of the few grassroots pillars against communism/socialism/leftism/deviants. They had an extensive publishing and "samizdat" operation a couple decades before the Internet existed. They were a vital part of the conservative movement during the Great Society years.
I frequented American Opinion Libraries almost 40 years ago. It was beneficial, to say the least.
