As a working man do they really expect me to take off 3 or more weeks to serve on a Jury? It wouldn't bother me so much but there is only a 3 week difference between the two. County is July 17 and US District is August 7th. Any advice on how to get out of these? I mean come on Hillary should be in prison seems like there is two rules of law in this country.

Show up to the county one. Hope you get dismissed before being called to a jury. If called to serve mention the hardship of the other summons.

From my recent experience at a state court, they are willing to dismiss jurors in cases like that.

I never try to avoid jury duty; it’s too important to skip. I suspect, however, that the second court would exempt you if you told them you had just served, and they will ask about prior service.

Won’t help you now, but I have found that registering to vote with “No Party Affiliation” leads to no jury summonses - ever. They must assume you are just the sort of libertarian crank they don’t want anywhere near their courtrooms. :)

Really there’s a few things you can do. When you send back the postcard there’s generally a “I can’t serve because... please reschedule” do that on one (don’t do it on both, Murphy was an optimist) and they reschedule.

Or you can go to both comfortable in the understanding that 90% of the time you won’t serve, you won’t even get near serving, it’ll just waste a day in the awful jury room and then go home.

Or since you probably won’t wind up on a jury just throw the cards out and move on with your life. They’ll try again later, they’ll even be threatening, but they can’t prove you got it and eventually they give up.

Normally, you only have to report for Jury Duty once a Year.

Not sure if that rule applies to Local versus Federal.

Instead of asking here, best to contact both Courts.

Been a while since I served jury duty, being old and able to opt out now, but I seem to remember something about a time limit in the rules for who must and must not serve - I think locally it was something like no need to serve again if you’ve been on a jury within the last year or so - maybe check with the courts involved to see if there’s some sort of exemption for frequency....
