I did something even stupider than this more than half-a-century ago when I was a kid --- I can't go into the details even now, I'm appalled even to think about it, but yes, it did involve an electrical outlet --- but y'know, I was a "very bright" 12-year-old. And I would have been a dead one except for a last-nanosecond intervention of Dumb Luck/Divine Providence.

You can be well-educated and quite intelligent and do idiotic things in a heartbeat. One heartbeat-stopping heartbeat.
