Someday the OBX are going to be inundated as the result a strong hurricane, but until then it’s a beautiful place to visit.
But china will claim they built it and demand we let them build a military base on it.

They get inundated in a thunderstorm, that’s why all the houses are on 12’ pilings. Inlets come, inlets go. Houses get washed away, new ones are built. It’s been that way since records have been kept, over 400 years. They’re fragile in a sense but in another sense they’re not. They’re giant sandbars. They move.
