I might rather have a baton than a knife; even in a knife fight. It is a dangerous tool if used well. One strike can shatter bone.
They need some Irish-style shillelaghs. Those will really ruin your day if used with full force. Since they are technically canes/walking sticks, they’re perfectly legal to have in public.
