“...drove it until it dropped...”
Haha!!! I know THAT drill well... but the thing was, you COULD do that back then, and replace it with ANOTHER for cheap that would get you around for ANOTHER year or so.
It truly was a great time. Let’s see, in ‘83, I was 22 years old... damn, a lifetime ago already...
Portholes and all on the front fenders?? Haha!
Always loved the looks of the 50’s vintage cars. Big, wide, solid, and comfortable.
Bought the hatchback version in 1976. Drove it off the showroom floor and spent the next 12 weeks traveling across the country on the longest road trip of my life. Visited 28 states and saw the pre bicentennial celebrations in as major cities as I could.
Slept in the back of the thing every night except for 12 where I either stayed in a hotel or crashed with friends. By the time I got back home the warranty was gone and I had more photos and memories than a young man deserves.
Glad I did it when I did, could never do it now.
1973 Chrysler Newport... a truly MASSIVE automobile. You could fit two Yugos in the trunk, and still have room for Jimmy Hoffa’s body...
As fine an auto as you’ll ever see or drive.
How could anyone NOT miss having a car like that?
I think about it every time I hear the B52’s song “Love Shack”.
1940 Buick Special.
40’s, huh? Damn!!! Fat Fender hot rods... you go back a ways!!! :^)
They were cool cars.
It was almost as big as a B52!!! :^)
Friend of mine had one of those for her first car...You couldn't spin the tires (we tried and tried) if you coated them with lithium grease...But it would definitely roll down the highway...Like ridin' in a stagecoach...
Multiple reply ping.
Screw Disney and Johnny Depp. He needs to lap ass to get roles since he squandered all of his $$$. Sort of like athletes send other thespians that “come out”; it’s a ca$h grab.
RR: Yep.
No, no heroin. Pamela Anderson? 25 years ago, sure. Nowadays? Uhhhh......noooo......
“Some of the WORST moments possible started with ‘Lets see what this baby will do...’”
Yep. It’s great to go fast; not do much when you can’t stop. I don’t think I ever went past 60 MPH on the highway in my old land yacht. It floated down the road.
My LTD was a 2 door. With drum brakes. The high beam thingy was on the floor. And green. Many, many gallons of green paint went into painting that car. I’m thinking multiple 55 gallon drums of Kelley green paint. But everything worked on it and it served me well.
Just ... STUNNING...
That is a frigging MACHINE, Joe. Yours?
Style, Class, and haulin’ ass...
Nothing like it today...
My parents had a 1969 Buick Wildcat. Dad never let me forget that the first night I drove it I put over 100 miles on it.
My first car was 1972 Buick Skylark with a 350 engine. I drove it into the grand.
My wife and I also had a 1970 Oldsmobile Delta 88, a 1981 Buick Electra Estate Wagon, and a 1984 Buick LeSabre.
The land boat we now have is a 2011 Chevy Traverse.
Very cool body style on the old Montys.
Again, style, class, and haulin’ ass.
