Actually, this is a picture that the 2004 (!) probe Opportunity took of its own heat shield in 2011.

Yes, and as a matter of fact, the mystery object is very near to that site, and is visible in at least two other images. It must be part of the same wreckage, but it doesn’t seem to be named or acknowledged in the NASA commentary. ( It does seem to a bear a resemblance to the “glider car” in the “These aren’t the droids you’re looking for” scene. )
