flight info says this is an international flight between Japan to Shanghai. Moreover, the plane is not small - its an airbus A320.

Even if boarding from the ground and not a retractable boarding bridge (which is odd for international flights), how did an old woman get close enough to a plane engine to throw coins in it?

Maybe she threw them from a hundred feet away. If so, my SF Giants are probably scouting her for their bullpen. On second thought, if she missed with a bunch of the coins, they’ve got that covered.
