My mother and my sister were both in accidents where they were badly injured but would have been dead if they were wearing seat belts. They both wear them now even knowing that not having them on saved their lives.

I agree with you in principle but as a taxpayer who has to pick up the ER tab for the indigent, I have a very hard time worrying about government over-reaching in this area.
