Okay, history didn’t exist. This will need to include slavery.
What do the blacks demand next? They don’t seem to want to build things up.
The Nazis burned books that offended them. ISIS blew up monuments that offended them. Now some folks want to remove statues that offend them.
I’m starting to notice a commonality here.
For later
My first thought was 1984, also!
These statue removals are a lesson in raw political power. Southern cities aren’t ruled by Dixiecrat politicians anymore. They are ruled by black Democrats and their very liberal white allies. These groups view the Confederacy as an evil that should be stamped out. (As an aside, that’s ironic because the Dems were the ones putting these statues up as symbols to unite them against the Republicans pre-1960). We may not like it, but it is what it is. There’s no way a conservative / Republican wave is going to sweep into power in these places any time in most of our lifetimes.
Well this at least proves one thing - The Klan is dead.
I can remember a time when even thinking about removing these statues would've sparked instant reprisals.
#### this.
I’m way up in NYC so I’m not of much help but you Southern folks can’t let these statues be taken down.
In fact, anything that was taken down should be put back up.
It’s a YUGE part of our country’s history.
I thought ISIS was the only group ripping down statues.
I am not big on the statues. It’s mostly nonsense. I just get tired of the black community playing victim all the time.
ISIS is alive and well in Memphis.
I like statues :)
They’re testaments to special men a lot of the time.
But we ALL could find a statue we didn’t like in the 50 states if we really wanted.
I can think of a LOT right off the top of my head!
Less than what?
The statue removed last night was situated/guarding in the area given over to Confederate soldiers
Beyond sad
They want these monuments taken down, but then why did I not see any African Americans at the Antietam Battlefield where there were thousands of Union casualties, numerous Union monuments for their bravery, a place where Lincoln stopped to visit several weeks after to introduce the Emancipation Proclamation???? the day I was there within the past year, there were hundreds of visitors, but no African Americans.
And not a word about how the Democrats celebrated a KKK recruiter named Robert Sheets Byrd (D-KKK).
People want these “painful reminders” of slavery removed, and I can sort of understand that. But at least they are reminders. Scrub them from view; scrub them from history.
And now I am reminded of the saying, “Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”
We need to start a Confederate Museum where all these INPORTANT, HISTORICAL WORKS OF ART can be stored. So when future generations realize what was done, they can reverse this liberal-driven, short term blindness and put them back where they BELONG. This would be a great fund sourcing project. Wouldn’t it be exciting to go to an old warehouse somewhere and view all of these in one place?
As everyone here knows they are coming for the Founder’s monuments soon.
Nathan Bedford Forrest, approx 1875: “I will say to you and to the colored race that men who bore arms and followed the flag of the Confederacy are, with very few exceptions, your friends. I have an opportunity of saying what I have always felt that I am your friend, for my interests are your interests, and your interests are my interests. We were born on the same soil, breathe the same air, and live in the same land. Why, then, can we not live as brothers? I will say that when the war broke out I felt it my duty to stand by my people. When the time came I did the best I could, and I don’t believe I flickered. I came here with the jeers of some white people, who think that I am doing wrong. I believe that I can exert some influence, and do much to assist the people in strengthening fraternal relations, and shall do all in my power to bring about peace. It has always been my motto to elevate every man- to depress none. (Applause.) I want to elevate you to take positions in law offices, in stores, on farms, and wherever you are capable of going.I have not said anything about politics today. I don’t propose to say anything about politics. You have a right to elect whom you please; vote for the man you think best, and I think, when that is done, that you and I are freemen. Do as you consider right and honest in electing men for office. I did not come here to make you a long speech, although invited to do so by you. I am not much of a speaker, and my business prevented me from preparing myself. I came to meet you as friends, and welcome you to the white people. I want you to come nearer to us. When I can serve you I will do so. We have but one flag, one country; let us stand together. We may differ in color, but not in sentiment. Use your best judgement in selecting men for office and vote as you think right. Many things have been said about me which are wrong, and which white and black persons here, who stood by me through the war, can contradict. I have been in the heat of battle when colored men, asked me to protect them. I have placed myself between them and the bullets of my men, and told them they should be kept unharmed. Go to work, be industrious, live honestly and act truly, and when you are oppressed I’ll come to your relief. I thank you, ladies and gentlemen, for this opportunity you have afforded me to be with you, and to assure you that I am with you in heart and in hand.” (Prolonged applause.)
