And that is why the deer population in northern Wisconsin is down.

Online DNR records show that so far this year there’s been 15 confirmed wolf attacks on livestock and one confirmed attack on a hunting dog. The state has paid out $196,397 in wolf damage compensation so far this year. It paid out $200,505 over all of 2016.

It’s all fun and games until a wolf eats a child.

If this is a bad thing, it’s because of Putin. If it is a good thing, it’s because of Obama.

“...that is why the deer population in northern Wisconsin is down”.........

Exactly “where” is northern Wisconsin? I live in central Wisconsin, the center of the state, my land is adjacent to a large federal wildlife refuge, one of the places wolves were introduced not many years back. Deer where common sightings in the yards and fields, my yard/land included. At times small herds would graze on my lawn, then came the wolves. After a short time the deer have almost completely vanished, but not the wolves. I have seen them walk through my backyard, crossing roads and in fields many times.
I am advised, a single wolf will kill a deer every 17 days for food. Running in packs up to 8-9, do the math, that’s a lot of deer. Wolves don’t kill just for food, ask some of our farmers. I have witnessed evidence of their destruction. I am NOT a fan of wolves. There is a common saying around the area and SSS (Shoot, Shovel and Shut up) fits.

The idea that the DNR can count wolves to with in 25 or is nuts.

The number they quote is the minimum maximum a few years back the DNR said wolves increase at 10 percent per year. even at a very low increase of 6 percent.

At 925 would be 55 new wolves then 980 next year would be 1038 then 1100 then 1166 then 1235.

These extra wolves seem just to disappear when the DNR counts them.

Where is “northern Wisconsin”?

I guess it’s somewhat like “upstate NY” - anything outside of NYC. LOL. Wisconsin is all pretty far north!

I was referring to where my husband and sons used to hunt, up on the Wisconsin/upper peninsula Michigan border, which is why they now hunt in MO. The wolves ravaged the deer population on their old hunting grounds in Florence Co.

I still have plenty of deer wandering my property in SE Wisconsin, but I’ve spotted a wolf, or a coy-wolf, too.

Here in Ak, we get wolves in our garbage cans during the winter; like coons back east. Usually around 3 am, several times a winter; my house dogs wake me up. I hang out window with 6.8 stag; wolves scatter. Funny thing is they come back nx night after being shot at; but soon as I put game camera out they never come back. If I sit out on the porch 4am in summer, drinking my coffee; I often see young wolves walk up my lane, cross my garden; oblivious to me sitting there. You don’t see wolves all the time; but there are more around then you’d think. They get outta control real quick too. A pack of 3-4 will grow to 20-25 if the food resource exists.

#12: "Wisconsin is all pretty far north!"

True. Except for Paul Ryan's district. It adjoins Illinois and is essentially a suburb of Chicago. That explains a lot.

I’m still waiting for Beau to get me a Coyote hat, but a Wolf hat would be fine, too.

He drew a tag a few years back, but didn’t get a wolf. I’m sure he’ll be applying again, as it’s one of the few critters he hasn’t bagged yet.

“You don’t see wolves all the time; but there are more around then you’d think. They get outta control real quick too. A pack of 3-4 will grow to 20-25 if the food resource exists.”

A Freeper in Alaska told me that he sends his kids to the bus stop with rifles to protect them from bears. This bringing back predators is idiotic. I am in Florida and I (We-Floridians) have a bear problem. I have to keep my trash in the garage as I am on a regular bear circuit. They have signs up reading, “don’t feed the bears” with a silhouette of a bear with his nose in a garbage can. What are people without a garage supposed to do?

One of these days a two year old will be killed in his back yard or a kid mauled on his way to the bus.

They had a bear hunting day and sold bear permits. But they didn’t kill enough bears so they announced they would hold another killing day. The libs went nuts and it was cancelled. (I suspect the announcement was purposeful sabotage on the part of a liberal government employee.)

I wish there were more wolves in California. The deer population is out of control.
