My Shepard (sadly departed) would let my cat abuse her. Never barked never bit. They were actually friends. When it was cold outside the cat would lay next to my Shepard and she would curl up around the cat.

The dog was also friends with the UPS man. She would hop up into the trick when he came by. One day it was a different delivery man for UPS. I went outside and found a terrified dude in his truck. My Shepard was confused. I told the UPS guy his job was to pet the Shepard.

My Shepard was not aggressive but was protective. If a stranger came to the house she would get between the stranger and my wife until she said it was okay. Once she said okay she would run up to the stranger and demand to be petted. However, with me it was different. If a stranger came up she would not get between me and the stranger but would just stand guard. It was like she was saying I know you can handle it but I am here just in case. The moment I exhibited friendship with the stranger she would run up and demand petting.

We can learn a lot from dogs if we will only listen.

Sounds as if your GS was a *Lady*. We're lucky to have such special critters in our lives.

We're Lab fanatics; our male *hates* the UPS guy; he hears the UPS truck, who might still be *way* down the street and he starts his *warning/alert* bark.

I’m afraid that my cat would have ‘run away’ .
