“I agree with you completely.”
Ah, perhaps we have reached some consensus where we each feel heard! I hope so anyway.
For the record: No, I can’t say I’ve been accused of stalking, cyberstalking or otherwise. Seems like a weird accusation on a discussion forum with a finite number of participants, mostly anonymous. I can tell you’re offended by it, but if there’s any way you can just ignore it, I recommend that. Sorry it happened to you, but I think that happens on the internet a lot. Good luck.
You really have to be publicly called a stalker to understand it. It’s not the equivalent of calling someone, for instance, stupid. People question and insult each other’s intelligence all the time. It’s standard. Few take it seriously.
Calling someone a stalker is diffetent. First, stalking is against the rules. So it’s an overt attempt to get someone in trouble with the moderators/the site itself. When you’re doing that on the basis of a lie, it’s particularly vile.
But next is the psychology of the stalker. They are screwed-up people. In real life stalkers are often psychopaths, and some end up committing murder. It’s a word with very sick, ugly connotations.
It’s also the height of manipulative. If you want to cut off all rational, constructive interaction, just keep on calling a person a stalker. Most will simply walk away. It’s too nasty an accusation to simply tolerate, and if the person won’t quit, the only option is disengagement.
Well that’s convenient for a person with an underhanded agenda. Suppose you wanted to spread toxic gossip about Trump. The problem you face is a couple of people who sometimes call you out on it.
The solution?
Call them stalkers until they leave you alone. Then you can spread your toxic anti-Trump gossip in peace.
If you were seriously trying to help, you’d encourage the person who’s falsely accusing others of stalking to knock it off. It’s very anti-social, nasty behavior.
But I won’t hold my breath. Actually addressing the problem is hard. Advising people to ignore the problem is easy.
