As someone with a concealed carry license, I have what
I consider to be a uniquely American view to “run, hide, & tell versus stand fight and kill.”

I have a concealed carry permit to protect me, my family, and friends. I am not a police officer. I am not required except potentially by my consciences to used deadly force to protect others. They for the most part have the ability to acquire a weapon, training and a license.

If I hear gunfire yes, I will run, hide and tell. However, if for some reason deadly force comes for me, I am trained and will used deadly force to survive and insure those close to me survive. If I retreat into a building and a terrorist comes to the door or window of that building then yes I will probably use deadly force to stop them, but otherwise my CPL is for my protection. not to protect society.

Of course if there are enough people like me in the street, then society will probably be protected as the terrorist will threaten the wrong person.

In London, law abiding people are not allowed to carry deadly force weapons, such as pistols. Therefore to expect them to confront deadly force unarmed is to ask them to be heroic in ways that are unreasonable.

The difference between London, Paris and the a number of terrorist attacks in the USA is that a small but reliable percentage of Americans are armed and know how to use deadly force. Are police are also armed and authorized to use deadly force. It is who we are as a society. A society of free men and free women.
