Actually, a major reason for the colonization of North America in large numbers during the Maunder Minimum period was a consequence of the Thirty Years' War, which caused enormous destruction on what is now Germany. As such, many Germans went to the American colonies in search of new economic opportunities, especially to Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and Delaware.
