There are differences but more similarities between Iceland and New Zealand.

Well, I'm no geologist, volcanologist or what have you, but the similarities seem quite evident to me. That is why I found the statement; "-- a phenomenon typically only seen in volcanic areas such as Iceland....." to be odd.....especially for a "science" publication.
