I have been watching the Carson reruns on Antenna TV. He is very different from modern talk shows.

Someone will eventually wake up...get the whole collection of Johnny Carson, Dick Cavett, Mike Douglas, and Merv Griffin shows...line them up from 9PM to midnight. At that point, half of the over fifty crowd will leave the garbage TV of today, and stage a revolt.

TV is unwatchable. Not only the trash they air but way too many commercials.

Even as a kid, I liked Carson and watch those same highlight on Antenna.

They’ve still better than almost every thing else running now.

You can watch tons of Johnny Carson programs on YouTube.

with no commercials!

Since getting a SmartTV late last year, we now only watch YouTube programs and Netflix on the TV.

Johnny Carson was a Democrat by all accounts but he was non-partisan with his political jokes. That's a far cry from talentless hacks like Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart who display their liberal colors at all times. Johnny was then and would be today an outcast in his own party. The class, dignity and common sense which Johnny had escapes all Democrats today.

It could also be said of the sports nostalgia channels showing vintage hockey games having the same sort of popularity for the same reasons. Those games that featured many not wearing helmets and thus considerably less stickwork and more player individuality and appeal, a bit more fighting and more standing up for oneself, and even the organ music in the background without the canned music and sound effects of today are probably that much more watchable as opposed to today’s brand of NHL hockey in many instances.

This is a total whitewash of Carson.

He was a first-class a**hole off the air to everyone around him.

He was horrible to his wives, his family and many times destroyed the careers of performers just because he was not honored by them.

The man was funny and presented a nice demeanor while on the air, but the reality is anything but that.

Carson called Wayne Newton “Chief” in reference to his native American ancestry. http://www.today.com/popculture/wayne-newton-johnny-carson-mean-spirited-wbna22043375

Stumbled on this when researching all the great entertainers who have passed:

https://consumerist.com/2008/08/15/donald-trump-saves-ed-mcmahon-from-foreclosure/

Donald Trump doesn’t know Ed McMahon, but he “grew up watching him on tv,” so he’d like to be his new landlord. McMahon is currently facing foreclosure from Countrywide, and had 2 weeks to sell his house before the bank repossessed it. Mr. Trump has agreed to buy the house and lease it to McMahon, says the LA Times.

The night before Trump’s inauguration, I saw Dana Carvey perform at a private function. All I could think of was Carson. He was quick, funny and especially given the day it was, highly political. But, the audience left laughing and not having any real idea where he actually stood. His act was funny and not mean.

I miss comedians who are actually funny

Yes, he was good, but he was still a liberal. His “Floyd R. Turbo, American” was a caricature of Middle America very similar to what the anti-Trumpers think of us.
