They remind me of the rabbit farm in Watership Down. They got lots of free, fresh vegetables every evening in their safe little enclosure. What rabbit could want for anything more? Only every now and then a few of them would go missing, and none dared asked any questions. Just pretend everything is fine.
Spooky scene! I recently reread it and couldn’t remember why the rabbits were so complacent. Shiver!
