Florence...the Center of Civilization.
Visit the Ponte d’Oro and buy the wife some jewelry.
Oh, and go see Galileo’s fingers at the Galileo Museum which faces the Arno.
If you want to be driven absolutely crazy by an overabundance of historic artwork...the Pitti Palace.
I envy you!
We went to the Pitti Palace yesterday morning, actually to see the costume collection. Of course it was closed for renovation. They have an exhibition called Women Power which they use as an excuse to double the price to the main exhibition. We told them to stuff it. If the Women’s exhibition was good enough to stand on its own they wouldn’t have to tie it to the Pitti exhibition.
This morning we left Florence for Milan to see the newly restored Last Supper. We live in Spain so there are plenty of cheap flights to Italy. We will go back to the Pitti Palace when the women’s exhibition ends.
If you are really in to historical art they have an exhibition at the Ufizzi featuring Leonardo da Vinci’s The Adoration of the Magi. It was the largest freestanding painting he ever did and, because he never finished it, you get a unique look into his creative process. It has been restored to bring you the colors as Da Vinci originally painted them and is amazing.
