“Just like you.”

Wow. You don’t know a thing about me. So I will fill you in on a couple of details. Prior to Feb 2015 I was not a user of cannabis & had zero plans to become one. But after 25+ years of dealing with depression & soul crushing anxiety despite taking the meds I was prescribed that never worked for very long I was faced with long-term hospitalization or suicide. Thankfully, a friend suggested I give cannabis a try.

I thank God our Heavenly Father for her on a daily basis for this. I did give it a try & thanks be to God it works for me. Depression & anxiety no longer rule my life.

So does that make me an addict in your world? I forgive you for your arrogant & woefully false assertion against me regardless.

“Sorry, but FR is no place for stoners.”

Thankfully, you don’t get to make that call. Besides, supporting the nanny-state’s prohibitionist un-Constitutional intrusion into matters best decided by the states is not conservative. Yet, here you are.

I get the impression that there are many here at Free Republic, who support marijuana legalization based on being “libertarian” on the issue, and also based on “state’s rights”; that states, not the federal government, should make laws in this area.

I see a partial conflict, in that, if you are “libertarian”, you should also oppose a state restricting marijuana. If you are truly libertarian on the issue, you would leave it up to all individuals to decide whether to use marijuana. It would not be a federal/state law issue, but an issue for which there should be no laws at all.

I think that now that a number of states have legalized recreational marijuana, that pressures will grow to decriminalize the use of other drugs.

Best wishes to you. It is helping you and that is a good thing. Don’t pay attention to your critics. Ignorance doesn’t belong only to liberals.

Thanks for posting your story... at 52 years old I have seen this exact scenario play out numerous times. While the drunks i have know in the same time frame have almost totally isolated themselves and are awaiting death by liver failure.
One co-worker from years ago said he started smoking it at 15 years old, in 1960... he just turned 72, still smokes like a chimney and only day he ever spent in the hospital was for ‘roid removal surgery.
Had another friend that ended many friendships 15 or 20 years ago because he found out somebody smoked pot. 5 or 6 years ago when he was ready to be fired because of what prescribed opiates and “pain management” had turned him into, his Dr suggested he try cannabis. He was one of the first medical cards issued in arizona... he is off opiates and now running the crew he was almost fired from. He comes home from work and eats a couple cookies and chills out for the night instead of supporting big pharma and living like a zombie.
