Marching into massed machine gun fire doesn’t show courage. It shows stupidity and programming. You’d make a good private or a dead second lieutenant in combat.
par,
good points; my observation is there has been a sea change among our military since roughly 1990. Until then, the citizen-soldier was considered the American Ideal. The citizen - soldier thought for himself, was good at improvising, did his job effectively, wanted to return to normal life, and never boasted.
That ethos has vanished. Today, our military has a culture which would be abhorrent to any US military leader such as Grant, Lee,Pershing, Eusenhower, MacArthur, and of course Washington. It’s unAmerican and seems to follow a Prussian Model.
The responses to my comments are good examples of this Prussian military culture which has corrupted our military.
