Red Dawn.By Dawn's Early Light - another good one (HBO film, IIRC).
Southern Comfort is one of his films too - a bit low-budget, but interesting to this Louisiana boy.

Well, that’s weird.
Just earlier today, for no reason, I started thinking of that scene in Red Dawn where the Powers Boothe character, playing an Air Force major, dies while fighting Russian tanks in Colorado during a World War III battle.
Great actor.
