Recently, staff from the Albert McMahon Elementary School in Mission, British Columbia, sent a letter to the students’ parents and guardians, indicating the cancellation of events related to the holidays, particularly those in the classroom involving the making of gifts to be later given at home.
The full letter reads as follows: "As Mother’s Day and Father’s Day approach we have met as a Primary (Grade 1 and 2) team to discuss our core values. In an effort to celebrate diversity, inclusivity and also nurture our students who are part of nontraditional families, we have decided to encourage those celebrations to take place at home. Due to this, the children will not be making gifts at school to give on Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. We feel each family knows the best way to celebrate with their own family."
The school is not trying to prevent those who want to celebrate from doing so, though. Instead, administrators implemented the policy in order to be sensitive to one particular student's family situation. "The reasoning [for canceling Mother's Day festivities] wasn’t some cabal or some political plan," superintendent Angus Wilson said. "Instead, there has been a recent trauma involving a student and its parents."

Should be a student and THEIR parents or ZHEIR parents.

SAID a Superintendent??????? Really - the local dog catcher wasn’t available for the job?
But I guess today it’s perfectly logical to call a student “its”....as who can tell anymore and stay out of trouble anyway?
That’s some stretch for them to cancel Mother’s Day and Father’s Day when neither day is held on a school day.
I think they want to turn everyone into devils.
