Beautiful. This old soldier says thank you!
“..not every high school student is a jerk. Some good news, for a change.”
True. And a thank-you for posting this.
I spent last week in a Joplin, Missouri hospital with my elderly mother. I went down to their cafeteria to get a sandwich and some fresh pineapple one evening. It was getting late and the place was mostly deserted. A young (18/19/20-?) year old young lady was lost in thought cleaning tables. She was singing the most beautiful rendition of America the Beautiful I have ever heard.
She sang softly around the few diners, but her voice shone as she worked the empty areas. A couple of us wondered if she was practicing for an upcoming event... But we decided interrupting her would be too great a sin.
Thank you for this post. Fills my heart & soul with pride.
Wonderful to see good things can happen on a plane.
God rest and keep the immortal soul of the soldier who gave his all.
Beautiful. What an absolutely lovely and patriotic thing for those choir students to do. God bless them.
The Battle Hymn of the Republic is perhaps my favorite patriotic song. The students sang the beautiful chorus, but the full stanzas (to me, especially the third, when slowed down) are so moving:
Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored.
He hath loosed the fateful lightning of his terrible, swift sword;
His truth is marching on.
(Chorus)
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
His truth is marching on.
He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat;
He is sifting out the hearts of men before his judgment seat.
Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer him; be jubilant my feet!
Our God is marching on.
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
His truth is marching on.
In the beauty of the lilies, Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in his bosom that transfigures you and me.
As he died to make men holy, let us live to make men free,
While God is marching on.
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
His truth is marching on.
Thank you for posting the YouTube link!!
Sad yet uplifting. Thank you.
It may be a year-old video but it is timeless. I’m an old Sailor that’s been around the world many times, but this sort of thing, like military homecomings, leave me a blubbering wreck. Thanks for posting.
